Sum 41 Shocks Fans With Upsetting Announcement

Sum 41 made a huge announcement on social media, sharing the news that they will be disbanding.

The group wrote on Twitter: "Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives. We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way."

The statement continued, "It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first. Sum 41 will be disbanding."

But there is some good news mixed in with the sad, as Sum 41 also confirmed that they would be finishing up their current tour, before releasing a final album, Heaven :x: Hell. Their career as Sum 41 will then come to an end after a final worldwide headlining tour.

They concluded, "For now, we look forward to seeing all of you skumf--s on the road and are excited for what the future will bring for each of us. Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41."

Many fans of the pop-punk band shared their thoughts on the news in the replies to Sum 41's post.

"we got blink 182 back, but lost sum 41. this stings a bit," wrote one fan.

Another person shared, "Most hope that they’d have an iota of the success y’all had in that time, cheers."

"The end of an era. And a bit of my growing up. Love you guys, thanks for everything," read a different comment.

The earnest thanks from fans continued, while many more noted that Sum 41 was a big part of their youth and growing up, as well as the formation of their music taste.

"Absolutely quintessential band in forming my taste in music. One of the first bands I loved. Thank y’all," said someone in response to the news.

Another fan shared their surprise at how emotional they got after hearing of Sum 41's breakup, writing, "i didn’t think bands breaking up was a thing that emotionally affected me, but damn."

Quite a few fans online specifically thanked the group for helping them deal with tough times, as one wrote, "Y’all got me through some tough times over the years and even to this day. I love you forever & thank you for everything."

Currently, Sum 41's upcoming final album, Heaven :x: Hell, doesn't have a release date, but fans can expect to hear news soon. The group's current tour will continue with stops around Europe and the U.S. until October.
