Sugarloaf Mountain Announces Solar Eclipse Event 'Sugarloaf Skiclipse'

On Monday, April 8th, Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine will be one of the few communities that falls perfectly in the path of totality for the solar eclipse.

With multiple viewing areas, Sugarloaf is hosting the "Sugarloaf Skiclipse", a weekend full of celebration, sponsored by the Orono Brewing Company.

The schedule includes free live music with performances from Skosh Band, The Tom Faunce Floyd Experience playing Dark Side Of The Moon, and DJs Max and Dana.

The aprés parties go on all weekend long, with plenty of all-ages events for the whole family at The Widowmaker.

On Monday, the day of the totality, the Beach will be cranking tunes from 11am-5pm at the base of the mountain. For people who want to ski while the sun is out, Bullwinkle's (at the top of the brand new chairlift!) will also be having an all-day celebration.

From 2:20-4:40pm, the moon will pass in front of the sun, first blocking the sun partially, and then totally for about 3 minutes, around 3:30pm. Viewing glasses will be available to purchase at all retail outlets at the resort.

At 3:10pm, there will be a temporary lift closure as the eclipse occurs.

Officials at Sugarloaf explain that "when the mountain falls under total darkness, the lifts will stop spinning for everyone to enjoy the total eclipse. Lifts will resume shortly after 3:30pm until their scheduled closing time. For those skiing or snowboarding, please plan accordingly."
