Sugarloaf Announces New Opening Day For Massive Expansion Terrain

Sugarloaf Mountain, ME, had scheduled their West Mountain expansion, the largest terrain expansion in the Northeast since the 1970's, for February 9th, but due to "unforeseen circumstances" out of their control, the opening day had to be pushed back.

Now, "West Mountain Expansion trails and Bucksaw Express lift will open Friday, February 16th at 10am."

The expansion is affording West Mountain 12 new trails and a high-speed quad.

This quad is the “Bucksaw Express” chairlift – a Doppelmayr high-speed detachable quad that will transport skiers and riders from its base on West Mountain Road up to Bullwinkle’s Restaurant.

Besides being the biggest terrain expansion in the Northeast for decades, it is also the most significant endeavor at Sugarloaf since the installation of the SuperQuad. The West Mountain project will transform more than 450 acres of exceptional terrain, adding a new high-speed lift, a dozen new trails, and the opportunity for current and aspiring Sugarloafers to build custom ski-in/ski-out slopeside homes.

Officials at the Loaf explain their motive for the expansion, saying, "these 12 new trails provide a perfect playground for beginner and intermediate abilities while opening up incredible views of the Crocker Mountains."

Boyne President & CEO Stephen Kircher shares his excitement for the balance and future opportunities that this expansion brings to the resort, saying, "Sugarloaf is the real deal of skiing, and now it's the real deal of intermediate terrain."

"It really sets the stage for much more sustainability and viability of the operations at Sugarloaf."

Officials at Sugarloaf say, "We can't wait to start this historic new chapter of Sugarloaf with all of you."
