How 'Succession' Star Sarah Snook Accidentally Fell in Love With Husband Dave Lawson

As Succession comes to a close with season 4, fans will miss watching the inner workings of the tempestuous Roy family. One such person among those saying goodbye is Sarah Snook, who made her mark as Siobhan "Shiv" Roy and walked a path full of romantic troubles. But unlike her character, she found love with her husband Dave Lawson, and their marriage continues to surprise fans, from their first encounter to present-day.

The couple's road to love started when they became friends in 2014, per a report from People. But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, Sarah found herself stuck in Melbourne, Australia. This led to her quarantining with the comedian, with their platonic relationship quickly turning romantic.

"At the beginning of the pandemic last year, I got locked down in Melbourne with one of my best mates and we fell in love," she told Vogue Australia in October 2021. "We’ve been friends since 2014, lived together, [traveled] together, always excited to see each other, but totally platonic. We’ve just never been single at the same time."

As their relationship became more serious, Sarah proposed to Dave on Halloween 2020. He accepted and a few months later, the two secretly married in February 2021 at her Brooklyn home.

What made the wedding day more special for the couple was the fact that co-star Ash Zukerman, who played Shiv's ex Nate Sofrelli in seasons 1 and 2 on the HBO drama, was one of their witnesses. What's more, they were able to keep their marriage a secret until she began press for the show's season 3 in October of the same year.

But wedded bliss isn't the only thing they kept a secret. When Sarah and Dave attended Succession's final season premiere in March, she announced that she was pregnant with their first child, due in mid-May. When speaking about motherhood on the Today show, she revealed that she filmed the HBO Max's last episodes while expecting. What's more, the couple has no plans to find out what they're having before the birth.

"It is [hard not to find out the gender], but it's also easy. You just sort of like, block it out. You just don't think about it too much," she said during the March 21 taping.

Despite their whirlwind romance, Sarah and Dave seem to be happier than ever. And though they enjoying to keep their relationship private, the actress said that having fun is the key to keeping romance alive.

"It was one of those things where you're sort of realizing we're having a lot of fun," she concluded on the Today show about their happy ending. "There is chaos going on in the world outside and it was like, 'This is really special because we're having so much fun.'"
