These Stylists Created Peeps-Inspired Pastel Hair Color for Easter

Here's exactly how they got the sweeter-than-candy look.

Every holiday has a divisive candy — a signature seasonal treat that some people adore and others want to kill with fire. Halloween has candy corn, Hanukkah has chocolate gelt, and Easter, of course, has Peeps. The fluffy, vaguely chick-shaped marshmallow confection is exactly what some celebrators look forward to find in their Easter basket, while other minds are thoroughly boggled by these festive sugar blobs. But there's one thing we can all agree on about Peeps: They come in such pretty colors.

Seattle-area stylists Melody and Michael Lowenstein were inspired by the pastel versions of Peeps when they created a multicolor look that's truly perfect for Easter. A photo posted to their Instagram grid shows the model with pale hues lavender, pink, blue, green and yellow, blended together in gorgeous waves. It's split-screened with a dozen Peeps of the very same shades.

Allure reached out to the Lowensteins to find out exactly how they created this incredible look, and it's no surprise that is started with lightening the model's medium-brown hair to a light blonde with the help of Pravana Pure Light Creme Lightener and varying volumes of developer. Then starting at the nape of the neck, Pravana's Luscious Lavender was applied to the roots, and the brand's Blissful Blue, Pretty In Pink, Too Cute Coral, Mystical Mint, and a mix of Neon Yellow and clear were applied to the middle and ends of the hair. Twenty minutes later, perfect Peeps hair was revealed.

As stunning as this pastel look is, if you're interested in a similar style, the Lowensteins want you to know that the color doesn't last as long as bolder, brighter hues. "With much less pigmentation, the fade is faster than it’s vivid counterparts," they tell Allure. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. "The fade always goes back to a natural looking blonde. Pastels are less of a commitment, this appeals to a lot of our clientele."

That said, they have great advice for making the color last as long as possible. First and foremost, they say, wash your hair as infrequently as possible and with a sulfate-free shampoo. "When applying shampoo, concentrate on the hair nearest the scalp and let the shampoo rinse through the rest of the hair," they advise, and avoid saltwater and chlorinated water whenever possible.

At this point, it may be too late for you to get Peeps hair in time for Easter, but the good news is that this look is gorgeous all spring and beyond.
