This Twin bed is Greenguard gold-certified and made from oak, poplar, plywood, and engineered wood with vertical channeling. The upholstery is soft and the foam doesn't break down easily, which is important when kids throw themselves at it daily. It's also easy to clean with a Bissell Little Green spot cleaner (ask me how I know).

It's a transitional modern piece that won't look out of place in any number of design styles. It would look as good in a midcentury-style room as it would be in a more kid-like room.

It's a very traditional style, ready for cottagecore, dark academia, French country, or hunting lodge aesthetics. My only complaint is that it doesn't come in a King size for me to buy one for myself.

This is the bed my son has in his room. It's tall and open, and he has bins upon bins underneath it to store off-season clothing, all of his Xbox controllers, and who knows what else. It's stable and was super easy to put together, too. He is not easy on his furniture, having broken several pieces of furniture in his time, and this one has held up well — Frankly, for the low price, I am delighted.

It could not be more basic, and that's how it's meant to be. It's designed to have stuff shoved under it, and that's exactly what it accomplishes.

A bed like this one is fantastic for bigger families or for kids who like to have friends over often. It's a simple style that could slide into any room.

A note from someone who has had bunk beds in this style: Go for a heavy mattress on the bottom bunk. Look for something like a Nolah signature mattress (which is the same one we have for my son) that's weighty enough that you don't feel it rock at all, which is a big ask for bunk beds.

A bed with storage and a USB port to charge devices and keep cords out of the way? Yes, please. For under $300? I love it even more. The bed is constructed mainly out of MDF, giving it an impressive 500-pound weight limit. It's lower to the ground than some of the others, but a standard underbed storage box will fit easily.

The fabric is washable linen in dark gray that won't show dirt or stains easily. It comes in both Full and Queen sizes. The shelf above the headboard, as well as the headboard itself, gives the bed additional storage for books, game controllers, or even a few extra fitted sheets.

It's hard to describe how fancy this bed looks in person. Or maybe not fancy, but it certainly looks like it costs ways more than it does, and it also feels like it costs way more than it does. It's made of solid wood, and when you're up close, you can really see the grain and even some knots apparent on the runners and the spindles. The deep brown stain and light satin finish give it a very mid-century modern feel.

I threw my adult human body on this bed, and there were no squeaks, no shifting, nothing like that (I did hit my head on the slats, though, so I don't suggest doing what I did. It was not well thought out.).

It comes in Twin, Full, Queen, and King. I experienced the Queen size in person, and it is a real stunner. There's enough room for a bit of storage underneath, and the owners of the bed I checked out used it to store blankets in blanket bags quite easily.

Want a bed that will grow with them and possibly even leave the house with them when they fly the coop? This very cool, very chic bed from Anthropologie may just be the one. It's made of carved ash wood with pine slats, and while that does mean it's on the heavier side, it's also on the extremely durable side as well. The design is unique, looking somewhat like a clamshell and somewhat like a rainbow, and in my opinion, it's giving big "cool Golden Girl" vibes. Although, was there any Golden Girl who wasn't cool?

If you didn't want to lean into the Miami eating-cheesecake-out-on-the-lanai vibes, you could make it a bit more shabby chic but modern with the right accessories and bedding. This bed comes in Queen or King, but honestly, I think the Queen is perfect for this style.

Twin size floor bed

Montessori beds are a very cool way to corral your kid while also giving them safety and the freedom to roam. Harper and Bright does a great job with this fully-enclosable floor bed made of pine and MDF.

I put one of these together for our tester, and it wasn't as hard as it looks. They set theirs up dead center of the room surrounded by pillows, but commonly, they're up against a wall or in the corner.

Honestly, no matter how it's set up, kids love them well beyond the age where you'd be worrying about them falling out of their bed at night.

High Loft Bed

Short on space? A loft bed with a multipurpose space beneath is a great option. This one has a wraparound desk, an easy ladder, extra bookshelves, and great, tall guardrails.

The loft on this is on the taller side so that it fits a standard office or task chair below with plenty of headspace. Because of that, I would suggest you use this for kids over age 10 but still make sure that there is at least 6 to 8 inches of clearance above the mattress to the top of the guardrail.

The bed is made of solid New Zealand pine wood painted with low-VOC paint. It's built to be used a lot and is built to last.

Platform Bed Frame with Four Storage Drawers

Another space-saver, this Full-size bed has room for your child and room for a ton of their stuff. It has four Full-size drawers on the bottom of the bed where your kid can store clothes, linens, that collection of rocks they've been slowly making over the years — all of it.

The bed itself is wrapped in an easily-washable polyester oxford fabric, and the base is a combination of woods and MDF. The bottom of the drawers is particle board. It's storage on a budget, and I'm a big fan.

This bed feels like a cozy cocoon when you're in it. It has bookshelves on two sides and two drawers below it, giving it a bit of lift. Some pillows in the corner, a good reading light, and a weighted blanket, and that's the makings of a very fine evening.

It looks like a tricky build, but worry not: This is from Raymour and Flanigan, and they do it all for you. It's made of solid wood, MDF, and cherry veneer. It's heavy, solid, and made to grow with your kid.
