Style Icon: ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’’s Ghost of Christmas Past

Holiday films are filled with memorable fashion moments. There are those fabulous giant feather fans in the “Sisters” scene of White Christmas, Ralphie’s pink bunny pajamas and Coke bottle glasses in A Christmas Story, Cameron Diaz’s absurd variety of outerwear in The Holiday, and the devil horns Alan Rickman’s temptress secretary wears in Love, Actually.

But, for me, no ugly sweater or sexy Santa outfit can even come close to my personal Christmas movie style icon: The Ghost of Christmas Past from 1992′s classic The Muppet Christmas Carol.

This ghastly little gal’s got it all: The alabaster complexion and ginger hair of Julianne Moore, the dainty hands of an American Girl doll, the speaking voice of a young Hermione Granger, the floating capabilities of a jellyfish, and an all-white outfit that legit looks straight off some Parisian haute couture runway. You just know that thing is 100% top quality silk chiffon.

And clearly, I’m not the only one who’s enamored by this stylish specter’s sartorial prowess. Rita Ora recently wore a whimsical Valentino frock that called to mind TGOCP, and Kourtney Kardashian sported an equally precious little white dress on a family trip to St. Barts. The look is a little bit bridal, a little bit cumulonimbus—and a whole lotta gorgeous. Forget friendly ghosts—I’d rather be haunted by a well-dressed spirit. Besides, it’s hard for anyone to be a Scrooge when you look this cute.
