It cleans, so you don't have to clean it, right? WRONG. Just like your towels (which BTW, you aren't washing enough), you have to keep your washing machine clean - weekly. And if you're doing heavy loads or washing things every day, then you may want to bump that up to a biweekly cleaning. Never cleaned your washing machine in your entire life? You're not alone, but the time to start is literally now. And it'll only take you, like, 30 minutes, tops.

What You'll Need

  1. 2 cups vinegar

  2. 1/4 cup baking soda

  3. 1/4 cup water

  4. Sponge

What To Do

1. Mix together baking soda and water in a small bowl to create a bicarbonate - or if you want to call it, the detergent for your machine.

2. Add mixture to the detergent container of your machine and pour the vinegar into the drum. Set it to a normal load at the hottest water setting and let it run.

3. Once it's done, rub a sponge around the opening of the machine to remove residue.

And that's literally it. It took up maybe a half an hour of your day, and you can rest assured you won't be washing your clothes and towels in something full of mold or mildew. Necessary.
