Student-designed postcards available at this year’s IL State Fair

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — When people visit the Illinois State Fair this year, they can pick up a souvenir designed by local students.

For the second year in a row, Springfield School District 186 and the Illinois State Fair teamed up to present students at Ridgely Elementary School an opportunity to design postcards for the State Fair. In their art classes, students designed postcards that captured their creative view of the State Fair, highlighting rides, food and more.

Staff selected one postcard from each grade level, and the six winning designs will be available for distribution during the State Fair at the Emmerson building. The postcards themselves will be free and they can be mailed for free at the U.S. Post Office in the Expo Building.

“We appreciate our partnership with District 186 and look forward to families across the state of Illinois using a custom postcard designed by Ridgely students,” said Rebecca Clark, Illinois State Fair Manager.

In addition to the postcards, the State Fair is holding a separate art contest for the rest of District 186. Students have until July 15 to submit pieces that include paintings, watercolors, drawings, sculptures, crafts, photos and digital imagery. Cash prizes will be offered to the winners.
