Stubborn Newfoundland Refusing to Come Inside Couldn't Care Less About the Stormy Weather

Maybe it's because of the rainy environment I was born in, but I've always loved stormy weather. Something about it is so calm, cozy, and nourishing--and I'm not the only one who thinks so! Plenty of other people love wet weather, but so do lots of animals, including dogs.

Just think about it! You've probably seen silly viral videos of dogs hopping through foot-tall snow or chomping at falling raindrops. Some pups prefer to cozy up in rainboots and dog jackets, while others would rather roll around in the mud au natural. For one unbothered Newfoundland from (guess where?) Newfoundland, Canada, a little rainfall simply provides the ambiance for a perfect day outside.

Homer wouldn't even come inside when his mom called him! He was as chill as could be as he lounged outside, and his reaction to Mom's questions had me giggling nonstop.

LMAO! This big boy is the literal definition of unfazed. He was napping outside without a care in the world until his human mom rudely interrupted. Judging by his nonchalant expression, the rain was not nearly as big of a concern to him as it was to her. Point taken!

Many of @homerthenewf's fans were equally as entertained by this silly dog's refusal to come inside. One dog groomer could relate, too! She shared, "I used to groom a Newfie, and I had to do everything on the floor because he used his size and weight to be a stubborn blob." Yep, that sounds about right! 'Stubborn blob' is a great way to describe the Newfoundland dog breed. They can be hard-headed at times, but they can also be incredibly sweet, patient, and loyal.

Many Dogs Can Tolerate and Even Enjoy Wet Weather

Lots of the dogs who end up liking the rain--just like Homer-- are breeds that hail from a stormy climate, so it might be in their genes to prefer the cooler temps and stormy skies. Just think about it! There are so many videos of Siberian Huskies burrowing in the snow and Saint Bernards refusing to come inside. It's not purely a coincidence!

These dogs who can tolerate colder temperatures and wet weather tend to have a double-layered coat that keeps them warm and dry. The Newfoundland even has a waterproof outer coat that literally repels rain and water--so Homer probably isn't even wet! The raindrops will fly off of him with one shake, so as long as that doesn't happen in the house, his mom will be happy.

If your dog tends to enjoy the rain like Homer, it's not a fluke! Don't be afraid to do some research about your dog's breed to see if they're tolerant to the cold before keeping your dog outside during the rain, though. After all, cold weather safety for canines is a must!
