The strength of a community: Embracing the blessings of Ashland's nonprofits

In a world that often emphasizes personal gain and self-interest, the nonprofit organizations in Ashland embody the essence of selfless service and compassion.

As Christians, we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves and extend a helping hand to those in need. Jesus gently reminds us throughout scripture to do what is right. Isaiah 1:17 says, "Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow."

Throughout scripture, numerous passages highlight the significance of serving others. 1 Peter 4:10 beautifully illustrates kindness and generosity towards the less fortunate, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms." Nonprofit organizations provide us with an opportunity to use our unique talents and resources to serve those who are less fortunate.

By actively supporting local nonprofit organizations, we wholeheartedly engage in fulfilling the Great Commission, as instructed by Jesus, to make disciples of all nations. Through acts of service and support, we create meaningful opportunities to share the love and hope of Christ with those who may be struggling in their faith or desperately in need of encouragement.

Matthew 5:16 beautifully expresses, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." This verse highlights the indispensable role that Jesus' disciples and followers have in the world. We must actively pursue good works assigned by God, ensuring that we continue to be effective as salt and light. By doing so, our light shines brightly amid a dark world, prompting others to give glory to God.

Nonprofit agencies are on the frontlines of social issues

Nonprofit organizations are pivotal in addressing pressing societal issues such as poverty, illness, healthcare and homelessness. They are on the front lines, working tirelessly to make a positive impact and improve the lives of those facing these challenges. Proverbs 19:17 beautifully emphasizes the importance of kindness and compassion towards the less fortunate. It reminds us that when we extend a helping hand to those in need, we are not only making a difference in their lives but also fulfilling a higher purpose.

Ashland is truly blessed with many remarkable organizations embodying the spirit of compassion and service. The Ashland County Cancer Association, ACCESS, Ashland Council on Aging, Salvation Army Ashland Kroc Center, Associated Charities, Ashland Christian Health Center, Ashland Pregnancy Care Center, Fostering Families Ministries, and Transformation Network are just a few shining examples of the many incredible organizations that tirelessly contribute to the well-being and support of our families, friends, and neighbors in need.

These organizations work to exemplify the principles found in Galatians, which guides them in fulfilling the law of Christ. As Galatians 6:2 reminds us, "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ." This verse encapsulates the essence of these organizations, inspiring us all to embrace compassion and selflessness as we come together to uplift and care for one another.

These organizations provide essential services and programs that offer hope, financial assistance, shelter, food, healthcare, resources, and support to individuals and families facing challenging circumstances. Theirunwavering commitment to serving the homeless, the elderly, cancer patients, mothers and children, and others in need is a testament to their dedication to following the teachings of Christ.

Matthew 25:35-40," For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger, and you invited me in, I needed clothes, and you clothed me, I was sick, and you looked after me, I was in prison, and you came to visit me. "

Supporting nonprofit work cultivates a spirit of unity and community among believers. It brings people from different walks of life together to make the world a better place. Ephesians 4:16 emphasizes the importance of community, stating, "From him, the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."

As we reflect on the nonprofit organizations within our community, let us recognize that each presents us with a unique opportunity to embody Christ's love through service. Whether through monetary donations, volunteering our time and skills, or raising awareness, we all can contribute to the uplifting, support, and prayer for these organizations, their dedicated staff, their mission, and the individuals they serve.

Let us embrace the role of being the hands and feet of Jesus, extending love, compassion and hope to those in need. By engaging in acts of kindness and selflessness, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of others, reflecting Christ's character and sharing His transformative love with the world around us.
