7 Fall Fashion Street Style Trends at New York Fashion Week Spring 2020

At New York Fashion Week, the street style can be just as intriguing as the looks on the runway.

Cooler September temperatures have given rise to a number of fall 2019 fashion trends among the street style set, who are forgoing their traditional summer wear for more layers, including printed suits, matching sets and cardigans. While many are gravitating toward the monochromatic look in hues of green, purple and beige, hot pink has proven to be the favorite color of the season, with many adding the pop of color to a muted look or wearing it from head-to-toe.

From tiny handbags and chunky sneakers to cardigans and suits, here are all the fall 2019 street style trends from the New York Fashion Week spring 2020 season.

1. Suits

The street style set is mixing practicality and style for their fashion week looks, with many leaning toward loose fitting suits in neutral tones and classic striped patterns.

2. Matching Sets

HBO’s “Euphoria” may be the inspiration behind this season’s colorful makeup resurgence, but it can also be credited for the rise in matching sets, courtesy of the show’s character Maddy Perez. Many are wearing the style in matching colors, like bright yellow, while others are going for bold, colorful patterns.

3. Monochromatic Dressing

Monochromatic dressing always gets the attention of street style photographers. This season, showgoers are mixing the style in hues of yellow, green, purple and pink with voluminous looks, making the trend pop even more on the street.

4. Hot Pink

Known for shying away from color, the New York street style set is now embracing hot pink as the color of the season. Many are wearing the hue in head-to-toe monochromatic looks, while others are pairing the vibrant color with classic denim or animal print.

5. Cardigans

Katie Holmes is arguably responsible for giving the cardigan a newfound cool factor, thanks to a photo of her going viral last month where the actress was seen wearing a Khaite cashmere cardigan and matching bra. Now the street style set is jumping on the bandwagon, wearing the piece in modernized styles accented with pearl detailing or worn alone as a top.

6. Tiny Bags

Tiny bags are one big trend at New York Fashion Week with many sporting styles by Jacquemus and Opening Ceremony X Telfar, among others, to complement their looks.

7. Chunky Sneakers

The oversized sneaker is still reigning as a street style favorite, paired with a variety of different looks.
