After nearly no news on the show since its initial unofficial announcement, the first (very concise) look at Netflix's adaptation of the Devil May Cry video game has surfaced at last. With Adi Shankar of Castlevania as Devil May Cry's showrunner and Studio Mir behind the animation, the not-so-revealing teaser does introduce us to demon-hunter Dante, and indeed hints at an action-packed first season.

Capcom's Devil May Cry video game was first released in 2001 and has sold around 30 million copies worldwide. Netflix and Capcom are seasoned collaborators, having linked up in the past to reinterpret a slew of Resident Evil projects.

“I’m honored that Netflix and Capcom have entrusted me to shepherd the Devil May Cry franchise," Shankar said in a statement. "[Writer] Alex Larsen and I love these characters, we are part of the fandom, and vow to surpass the exceptionally high bar we set for ourselves.” Larsen recently contributed to the streamer's 2021 Yasuke series and is also working on an adaptation of Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.

Devil May Cry has no official release date yet (the trailer slams a "coming soon" title card at the end), but the show is confirmed to take an eight-episode format.
