'Stranger Things' Star Studies Human Services at Indiana-Based College

Millie Bobby Brown is headed back to Hawkins... sort of.
Millie Bobby Brown is (sort of) heading back to Indiana, but she won’t be slaying any demogorgons this time around.
In her cover story for the September edition of Allure, Brown revealed that, among her many other projects, she’s started taking online classes through Purdue University, where she’s studying human services. “You learn about the system and how to help young people,” she explained of the major.
Purdue’s website describes the course of study as an “excellent choice” for those “interested in working with people to help improve their life circumstances.” Students who complete the program may go on to help kids, adults, or even whole families in unfortunate situations find solutions to the struggles they face through community, home, mental health, or social service-related careers. Graduates will be equipped with “basic knowledge in human development and family studies, skills for working with people in service agencies, and program evaluation skills.”
Purdue also offers a concentration in addiction studies in partnership with Ivy Tech Community College.
It’s no surprise to learn that the Stranger Things star is interested in pursuing service work, as she's no stranger to helping others. In 2018 she became the youngest UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador ever. She donated thousands to support frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and created a limited edition Florence by Mills eyeshadow palette in support of the Olivia Hope Foundation, an organization founded in the name of a late friend of Brown’s which is fighting to cure childhood cancers.
Brown has taken a big step back from social media and the public eye after years of cyberbullying and harassment but knows she still has a lot of eyes on her. Ultimately, she says all she wants to do within her career is to help young girls and young people. “Young girls deserve an education. Young people everywhere deserve equal rights. [You] deserve to love the people that you want to love. Be the people that you want to be and achieve the dreams that you want to achieve,” she said.
In addition to her schoolwork and Stranger Things’ fifth season, Brown also has an Enola Holmes sequel in the works and another Netflix flick called Damsel. She also teases screenplays she’s written with her sister, Paige, though there’s no word on any potential development. Whatever she chooses to focus on next, she’s certain to knock it out of the park—or the upside down, as it were.
