Stranger Things spoilers follow.

Stranger Things season 4 star Joseph Quinn has opened up about a potential romance between Eddie and Steve on the Netflix show.

Quinn plays Eddie Munson, a newcomer for season 4, while Joe Keery has been playing Steve Harrington since the start of the show.

Season 4 part two saw the pair grow close but their budding friendship was cruelly cut short after Eddie's untimely (and heartbreaking) death.

Fans of the show were smitten with the friendship coupling so it was only a matter of time before fan fiction about Steve and Eddie aka 'Steddie' began to appear online, with some fans hoping the pair were more than just friends.

When asked about a potential romance between the pair, Quinn told Radio Times: "All I can say is... how did they know?"

"Well, you know, just… people can dream, I guess," he joked. "I dunno! I don't really know what to say to that."

The star was then asked if he thought a romantic relationship could have been written into season 5 had his character not died.

"Maybe! Maybe, maybe, maybe. Yeah," he said of the potential which, quite frankly, makes Eddie's passing even more of a tragedy.

Recently Quinn addressed a possible return to the series and suggested he could still return to play a part in Dustin Henderson's (Gaten Matarazzo) storyline.

Speaking about the possibility of reprising the role, Quinn said: "Me and Joe Keery were discussing ways in which I could kind of [come back]... maybe I'd be like a figment of Gaten's imagination or something. Like if there could be some kind of room for something like that, something a bit supernatural."
