Will the "Stranger Things" Kids Realize That Will Byers' Mom Used to Be Famous?

From Seventeen

With all their pop culture references and 80's Easter eggs, watching Stranger Things is almost like stepping back in time. Even though the show is science-fiction and clearly based off of a made-up story (unless you really believe in aliens and alternate dimensions), the producers try to keep the show true to the time era it's set in. That's why they transformed an entire mall in Georgia by adding shops and awnings that'd really exist in the 80's. The show has even made references to cult classics from the decade, like the movie Back to the Future. But for Joyce, played by Winona Ryder, the fact that the show is set in the 80's might prove a little tricky for her.

That's because Winona actually first became famous in the 80's. When she was 15, she starred in a romantic comedy-drama named Lucas. Her debut was so good that Winona later got casted in other movies like Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. You've probably already heard of both, since they're considered classics.

Since Stranger Things loves sprinkling the shows with setting-specific Easter eggs, we'll assume that they'll continue to do that in season 4 and beyond, if the show continues into future seasons. That means the kids have to come across these movies some day. So, some people are wondering how the show's creators will address the whole Winona/Joyce paradox.

What will happen when the Stranger Things' gang realizes that the actress in all of these famous 80's movies looks a lot like Will Byers' mom? One Stranger Things fan had a simple way to address it: make it sort of a joke.

"they said stranger things could continue until they start seeing winona in 80s movies in the show so if there isn’t a scene where they’re walking out of the movie theater and one of the boys tells will 'she kinda looked like your mom if she was a teenager' then what’s the point"

Mashable asked the show's executive producer, Shawn Levy, how the show would handle the coincidence and he said they really weren't sure how.

"That's [the coincidence] really funny, and I suppose it's possible?" Levy said. "We're definitely trying to make the show as quickly as we can. We're not in control of those things, but we don't want to bullshit about those things."

It seems like Stranger Things' has an opportunity for a really funny scene here. I hope they don't pass it up.
