The end of Stranger Things season 3 was heartbreaking for a number of reasons, but nothing was harder to watch than seeing El, Will, Joyce, and Jonathan saying goodbye to Hawkins and their lives as they knew it. After Hopper's death, Joyce ended up fulfilling her promise of leaving the cursed town to somewhere much safer.

While we honestly can't blame her for wanting to move away from the very town that almost made her lose her son for good thanks to its crazy monster problem, it was still surprising to see her make good on her promise to leave town once it was all over. Also, with Hopper gone, El moved in with the Byers, which means she was also going to leave town with them.

So where did they end up going and will they ever come back in Hawkins? Here's everything you need to know about where El and Will moved to...

It's no surprise that the show's writers left us wondering where exactly the Byers family would be heading off to after their big move at the end of season, but thankfully, there is one easter egg that was recently revealed that might be the clue we've been waiting for.

Fans recently discovered that Murray Bauman's phone number actually works and there is a special message for Joyce (and for anyone else who decides to call) when you call.

"And if this is Joyce, Joyce, thank you for calling. I've been trying to reach you. I have an update. It's about — well, it's probably best if we speak in person, it's not good or bad but it's something."

There's a good chance that this means Joyce is living in Illinois, where Murray also lives, in order to stay close to him and help him investigate the next great mystery. Maybe they're trying to figure out what happened to Hopper? Or maybe there's a new monster in town that is about to wreck everything?

Another theory is that Joyce took the kids all the way to Maine, where she planned to move to with Bob in season 2. Joyce was still seen mourning Bob's death at the beginning of the season, so it wouldn't be surprising to see her move to a place that reminds her of him.

Either way, it looks like we won't officially know where they headed off to until the show returns for season 4.
