If you spent your MDW 2022 binge watching Stranger Things season 4, you may already be wanting more. Luckily, it’s not time to part with our favorite Dungeons and Dragons players just yet. Volume 1 premiered on Netflix on May 27, nearly three long years after the release of season 3 in July 2019. It consisted of seven of the most terrifying (thanks, Vecna), action-packed moments of the entire sci-fi series, picking up a few months after the shocking events of the season 3 finale. And we’re not just in Hawkins, Indiana anymore. Eleven, Will, Jonathan, and Joyce have relocated out West to Lenora Hills, California, while Hopper is trapped in a Soviet Union prison.

While Volume 1 answered some of our questions about the origin of the Upside Down, Eleven’s disturbing connection to Vecna, and how Hopper survived the Starcourt Mall explosion, there are still two episodes left in Stranger Things 4. The eighth and ninth episode make up Volume 2 and are *full* feature film-lengths (85 minutes and 2.5 hours, respectively). “We have more characters, they’re spread out and, in order to get across the story that we wanted to but also not lose sight of the characters, to give each character their moment [and] each character relationship the kind of emotional depth it wanted or craved, we just needed the length,” Matt Duffer, Stranger Things co-creator, explained to Netflix about the show’s supersized season.

How will this chapter of Stranger Things end before the show’s fifth — and final — season? Here’s everything we know about Stranger Things 4 Volume 2.

What will happen in Volume 2?

The seventh episode tied up some loose ends — for instance, it appears that Joyce and Murray successfully saved Hop from the Soviet Union soldiers. But Eleven is still stuck in the lab in Ruth, Nevada with Dr. Brenner and Dr. Owens. We don’t know what unfolded after Mike, Will, Jonathan, and Argyle buried that government agent and then visited Suzie in Salt Lake City, so they could be en route to rescue Eleven.

Back in Hawkins, Robin and Eddie have successfully escaped the Upside Down, but Nancy is still stuck there as Vecna’s next victim — and we're unsure if Steve exited the Upside Down, or stayed back to save her. Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Erica, have discovered how to communicate with the others in the alternate universe, so we could see how they try to save her. Not to mention, one of the final scenes reveals that Vecna has a “001” tattoo on his wrist, indicating that he is Henry Creel/One. With all this, and the existence of the capsule Nina still at play, there’s still so much to unpack in Volume 2.

On June 19, Joseph Quinn — who portrays everyone's favorite Hellfire Club leader, Eddie — hinted in an interview with The Guardian that the final two episodes are utter pandemonium.

"I can say there’s a guitar scene and that the scale and ambition are astonishing. All the seeds that have been planted bear fruit and it’s just carnage," he shared with the outlet. "You know the finale is two-and-a-half hours, right? Ending with this monster, feature-length episode is so bold."

Joseph’s comments come after the Duffer Brothers claimed that no character is guaranteed safe from harm in Volume 2. When asked in an interview with Variety if viewers can anticipate more deaths in the final two episodes, Ross Duffer gave a warning.

"I don’t really want to say, but I would be concerned about the characters going into Volume 2, for sure. I hope that that is sort of the sense, because it is a darker season and the kids are no longer kids," he said. "So everybody is in danger. And there’s sort of an ominous feeling that things might not go well. Now, whether they do or not, you’ll have to watch."

Does Volume 2 have a release date?

The final two episodes of Stranger Things 4 will debut on Netflix on July 1, which means it's coming sooner than we've anticipated.

Is there a trailer for Volume 2?

Yes! Netflix released the official trailer for volume 2 on June 21. In it, Dr. Brenner warns Eleven that the Hawkins crew may not make it through this battle, and she feels that they need her help more than ever. We catch a glimpse of Robin, Nancy, Steve, Eddie, Max, Dustin, Lucas, and the rest of the gang as they prepare for another life-or-death battle with the Upside Down. Of course, Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" plays ominously in the background, because why wouldn't it?

On June 9, Netflix also dropped a teaser trailer for Volume 2 on Twitter. The trailer features the Hawkins gang and their parents (sorry, we mean Joyce and Hopper) getting ready for a final showdown in the Upside-Down. We see clips of Steve, Robin, and Nancy in a dark forest, Hopper looking at alien-like creatures preserved in glass cells, Vecna holding out his hand as human feet lift off of the ground, and a massive, fiery explosion. There's no telling right now what actually was set on fire, but we're hoping that it was either 1) the Russian prison or 2) Vecna himself. It's probably not the latter, since the villain has proven to be difficult to kill, but it would be nice.

Vecna's voice rumbles in the background of the teaser clip as the creature formerly known as Henry Creel/001 declares, "It is over, Eleven. You have freed me. You can't stop this now."

What about photos?

Also yes! New photos from Volume 2 tease some of what goes down in the season's final two episodes, and even answer some of the questions we had after that Volume 1 ending. For instance, we see Enzo, Murray, Joyce, and Hopper all together in a location that seems to be separate from the room Hopper and Joyce reunited in. And Nancy appears to have escaped the Upside Down — but we have no idea what kind of impact Vecna still might have on her. Plus, Eleven and Dr. Brenner appear to be in serious deliberation in Nevada, while Will, Mike, Jonathan, and Argyle seemingly race toward El's location.

How long are the Volume 2 episodes?

It’s hardly a secret that the seven episodes in Volume 1 are looooong. The shortest episode’s runtime is 62 minutes, while the longest episode maxes out at 98 minutes. The final two episodes consisting of Volume 2 are titled “Papa” and “The Piggyback,” and according to Variety, they clock in at around 85 minutes and 2.5 hours (!!!), respectively. Hope you have your Eggo Waffles ready.

When is the final season of Stranger Things?

Following Season 4 Volume 2, Stranger Things season 5 will mark the final season of the Netflix series. There’s been no word yet on when it’ll air, and as of February 2022, production hadn’t started yet, per The Hollywood Reporter. Knowing this, it’s likely we won’t see the final season of Stranger Things until 2023 or 2024.
