‘A Strange Loop’ Leads the 2022 Tony Awards Nominees List With 11 Nods

Can you believe the 2022 Oscars happened 20,000 years ago? Okay, dramatic, but I know I’m not the only one who can’t believe It All™️ went down just two-ish months ago, especially since other star-studded events like the Grammys and Met Gala have come and gone just as quickly. But get ready to dive headfirst riiight back into the awards season frenzy because the 2022 Tony Awards nominations have officially hit the masses, people!

History-making Oscar winner Ariana DeBose is set to host the June 12 awards ceremony, which will be held in New York City at the iconic Radio City Music Hall per usual. A Strange Loop—the story about a queer Black man navigating life and identity that initially premiered off Broadway in 2019—leads the Tonys pack with a whopping 11 nominations. The musical also won a lil thing called, ahem, a Pulitzer (!!) in 2020 for Best Drama.

Other shows with numerous nominees include Company with nine; The Lehman Trilogy and Six: The Musical with eight each; For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf and Girl From the North Country with seven each; The Skin of Our Teeth with six; and Clyde’s, Hangmen, and Mr. Saturday Night with five each.
