Straight From the Runway: 5 Easy Hairstyles to Ensure You Never Have a Bad Hair Day

There’s one Fashion Week beauty trend we spotted all over the runways that anyone can start embracing right now: easy hairstyles that are so simple they can stop a bad hair day straight in its tracks.

We’re talking chic looks that take no more than a handful of minutes and minimal effort to re-create. The best part is that these styles work on most hair types and only require a few styling products, some of which can be picked up at your local drugstore.

Either way, all five of these runway looks can be the answer to the biggest hair woe of them all.

Whether you have curly, straight, or wavy strands, the slicked-back wet look spotted at Thakoon is a perfect style when washing your hair is not an option. It’s also ideal if you live in a humidity-prone area when blowouts are pointless and natural texture is the way to go. Hairstylist Odile Gilbert created the sophisticated look at this show by using TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Amplifying Mousse ($5) to define the hair’s texture and a bit of Ultra Firm Control Tres Gel ($4) in the front for a polished look.

At Prabal Gurung, the hairstyle was all about strong femininity, and hairstylist Anthony Turner created the look by making a few changes to the classic ponytail. This is a great style for those with medium to long hair and looks effortlessly sleek. The first step is to create a deep side part. Then gather hair at the nape of the neck into a ponytail. So easy, right? To polish the look, tame flyaways, and ensure hair stays in place all day long, Turner used Wella Rugged Texture Matte Texturizing Paste ($19) on the crown and took things a step further by curling the ends of the ponytail using Hot Tools 1-inch Curlbar and then raking his fingers through the waves to create a soft finish.

For designer Raf Simons’s debut show at Calvin Klein, he wanted to emphasize the personality and individuality of each model through the beauty look. Hairstylist Guido Paulo used minimal product to refine hair’s natural texture and create a lived-in effect. Whether you have straight, curly, or fine hair, the trick to enhancing its natural pattern is to use the power couple Guido used backstage at the show: Redken Wax Blast 10 ($19) and Wind Blown 05 ($19). The wax helps spruce up your hair while the hairspray finishes and locks in the look.

Now, this is how you update a tired topknot. Backstage at Monse, models donned beautifully twisted buns that looked like a glamorous chignon but only took about five minutes for hairstylist Odile Gilbert to create. After fastening hair into a high ponytail, Gilbert divided the pony into two sections, spritzing with TRESemmé BeautiFul Volume Hairspray ($5). She twisted hair while wrapping around the base of the ponytail and fastening it with bobby pins. Top off the feminine look by allowing strands of hair to frame the face to soften the style.

At Narciso Rodriguez, the look was all about second-day hair after a long night out. The rock ’n’ roll-inspired hairstyle works for the days when you’re feeling that styling product buildup from the day before. Using a mixture of Bumble and Bumble Grooming Crème ($31) and Wella EIMI Sugar Lift Spray ($19), Anthony Turner worked in the products to create a textured look. He followed that up with the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, which he used to lock in the bend in the hair he created with his hands. No brushes, curlers, or hairspray — all it took was the hair dryer to finish this breezy style.
