New Year’s Day, for most, signals the end of the holiday season. And let’s face it, a possible recovery day from New Year’s Eve. While many places will be closed on the first day of 2023, we've got a list of the 18 stores open on New Year's Day!
Whether you are celebrating friends and family by hosting a party, enjoying a “Hail Mary” college football day, or just recovering from New Year’s Eve festivities, we have all of the stores that are open for you to grab any last-minute items that may help you continue to ring in the New Year right.
Here are 18 stores that are open for your convenience on New Year’s Day. But it is still strongly advised that you call ahead before heading out to your nearest location, as some hours can vary by location.

Grocery & Retail Stores Open on New Year's Day 2023
Kroger
Open for business on New Year’s Day, this major grocer may have reduced hours, so check first. But at normal hours, Kroger is open at 6 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m. Their pharmacy will only run from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. on the holiday.
Publix
While they'll be open on New Year's Day, they will have reduced hours, so call ahead before heading out.
Meijer
The Midwest favorite, Meijer is absolutely open on New Year’s Day, for all of your shopping needs. From groceries to clothes, and everything in between, if you haven’t had your fill of shopping by this time, then you can get out there, and do some more at Meijer, during their normal hours of 6 a.m.-12 a.m.
Dollar General
You know Dollar General has those little unpredictable necessities, and you will be able to snag them up during normal business hours on New Year’s Day.
Target
You can bet your bippy that Target will be open alongside all of the other major retailers. They will still open at their normal 8 a.m., but they will be closing an hour early at 9 p.m. Make sure you watch the clock and don't lose track of time, in order to get there before they close.
Walmart
Unlike Christmas, most retailers hold normal New Year’s Day hours, and Walmart is expected to be no exception to this rule. They were open for normal hours last year and are anticipated to be the same for the first day of 2023!
Best Buy
Want to get out and spend that Christmas money on some new electronics? Best Buy will be open this New Year’s Day, but hours will vary, and could be shortened, so call first before leaving home. They are normally open from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Pharmacies Open on New Year's Day 2023
You can always count on the big three pharmacies, CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens to be open on New Year’s Day. They have all of your last-minute items stocked and ready for you, but their store hours and pharmacy hours do vary around the holidays. Call to see what time your location closes before you get in your car and go.
Home Improvement Stores Open on New Year's Day 2023
Ace Hardware
The usual business hours of the store are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Ace closes at 6 p.m. Saturday, and even earlier on Sunday, at 5 p.m. They are showing to be open on New Year’s Day, but it would be smart to check on their hours first before driving to the store.
Lowe’s
Things break at the most awful times!
But at least Lowe’s will be open on New Year’s Day just in case something comes up. They were open last year from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and most likely, will hold true again this year.
Home Depot
Their hours will be cut down a bit, running from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., but Home Depot will be open for whatever your home improvement needs are.
Menards
One of the few stores that do not reduce hours on New Year’s Day, Menards has everything you need, from cheese balls to toilets, and just about anything else you can think of for your home.
Convenience Stores Open on New Year's Day 2023
7-Eleven
If Slurpee's are calling your name this New Year’s Day, then you can head on over to 7-Eleven and get yourself one. Just call ahead first, last year they had shortened their hours a bit, but were open on the holiday to serve you.
Buc-ee’s
Open 365 days a year, and 24 hours each of those, Buc-ee’s is sure to please. They are known to have “The cleanest bathrooms in America,” and if that doesn’t pique your interest, they are known to have just about everything you can imagine, from popcorn to grills! Now that is a convenience store worth checking out on New Year’s Day!
Circle K
Gas, soda or maybe a gallon of milk? Circle K will be running normal hours, which are 24 hours a day, on New Year’s Day. Just circle on in, they are open to accommodate you at all hours of the day or night.
Weigel’s
You know Weigel’s will be open on New Year’s Day. This truck stop runs 24 hours non-stop, including New Year’s Day.
