For a better part of a decade, major retailers like Walmart and Target have kicked off their Black Friday deals starting on Thanksgiving. Even though it wasn’t without controversy, the giant box stores seemed certain about their decision to remain open on Turkey Day and it was here to stay. However, that all changed when COVID-19 decided to make an appearance, and stores continued their closures last year as well. Now, these stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day 2022.

Walmart

While this big-box retailer has been known in the past for its insanely large shopping crowds on Thanksgiving, Walmart announced that it will be closed on Thanksgiving Day again in 2022. They validated their decision as a thank-you to the store’s employees for their continued hard work.

Best Buy

To give employees a break, Best Buy has stated that they will close up shop on Thanksgiving. But keep an eye out for their Black Friday deals!

Target

In a shocking turn of events, Target was one of the first big-box retailers to close on Thanksgiving in 2020 and will follow suit in 2022 for the third year in a row.

Kohl's

Kohl’s will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Lowe's

Unfortunately, if you run into a sticky spot this Thanksgiving, you’ll have to call an emergency plumber or electrician. Lowe’s is following the footsteps of other retailers and is closed on Thanksgiving.

Sam's Club

Sam's Club, which is owned by Walmart will be closed on Thanksgiving, similar to other Walmart locations.

JCPenney

To show their employees some love this holiday, JCPenney has decided to close on Thanksgiving Day, but they'll be open at 5 a.m. on Black Friday!

Macy's

Macy's announced that their stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. "We encourage customers to shop with us on macys.com and through the Macy’s mobile app where they will find all of our Black Friday deals,” a press release previously stated.

Petsmart
