The Mont-Sainte-Anne Downhill this past Saturday was one for the ages. In the Men’s race, the overall was on the line.

Watch the highlights of the spectacular race below.

In this race, Loic Bruni only had to get on the podium to seal the overall. With that on the line, he lived up to the challenge. Going third to last, he crossed the line in the lead, guaranteeing a podium. His lead was not to last, however.

Next out of the gate was Ethan Craik. Craik, a 20-year-old in his second season of elite racing came down the course and put over two seconds on Bruni, extending his streak of top 10 finishes. Craik, however, did not know that the show was about to begin in earnest.

Jackson Goldstone dropped in and put on an absolute show. Goldstone floated down the course and beat Craik by 4.3 seconds and Bruni by nearly 7.

Goldstone joins an elite group of Canadians who have won at Mont-Sainte-Anne including Finn Iles and the legendary Stevie Smith.

Goldstone gave a heartfelt shoutout to Stevie Smith, the Canadian Downhill icon who tragically passed away at the peak of his career in 2016. “That one was for you, Stevie,” Jackson said.

Though Goldstone narrowly missed winning the overall, he concluded an amazing rookie season, tallying two wins despite missing time with a ruptured appendix. We will be watching his career with great interest.
