Academy Award winner Steven Soderbergh has dropped a curious new project today titled Command Z.

The description on IMDb states that the series is about a scientist who tasks his employees with a "historic" mission to travel back in time to revise history and save the world.

The series features Michael Cera, Liev Schreiber, Chloe Radcliffe, Roy Wood Jr. and JJ Maley.

When asked for a director's statement, Soderbergh said, "I couldn't think of anything else to do. Or, maybe: What CAN I do? About, you know, everything that's happening".

The eight-episode series is live now at commandzseries.com for $7.99, which will be donated to charity.

Soderbergh says the series is "a simple story with a simple message, in support of two amazing organizations that DO take DIRECT ACTION". The two organizations are Children's Aid and Boston University Center for Antiracist Research.

The website opens with a sentiment:

Funny Thing About The Future

It's never going away. Or at least not anytime soon. But what to DO with it? Or ABOUT it? These questions-and many more-can be answered with a few clicks and few bucks (for two good causes). But be warned: with every answer will come more questions, because, hey: IT WERE EVER THUS.

So, if you fancy something a bit different and have exhausted all the other streaming services, maybe it's worth diving into Command Z to see what the mystery is about.
