For the first time since 2015, Steve Harvey is not hosting the Miss Universe pageant.

After a year and a half delay due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 69th Miss Universe Coronation is officially taking place on May 16 in Hollywood, Florida. But this year, Steve will not be on stage to introduce the world to the new Miss Universe. On April 20, the Miss Universe Organization announced on social media that Access Hollywood host Mario Lopez and TV personality and former Miss Universe winner Olivia Culpo will be this year’s cohosts of the televised event.

Shortly after the announcement was made, Steve, 64, responded to the report on Twitter and revealed some news of his own. “I’ll miss you guys — but I’ll see you for the 70th!” he wrote alongside a retweet.

The Miss Universe Organization then replied to Steve on Instagram: “We’ll miss you too – but we will see you soon!”

Some were upset to learn that Steve wouldn’t be at the event while others understood this wasn't a permanent arrangement.

“Miss you Steve 😢,” one person wrote on Instagram. “❤️😢,” another added. “See you again on the stage 👏👏👏🔥🔥,” a different fan said. “Can’t wait to see you again in [the] 70th edition Steve ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥,” a follower commented.

But why is Steve not hosting this year’s Miss Universe? While neither the organization nor Steve have publicly shared a reason, it seems like it might be because of a scheduling conflict. In addition to hosting Family Feud and Celebrity Family Feud in the U.S., Steve also hosts the game show in South Africa and Ghana. According to his Instagram, he’s currently in South Africa filming season 2 of Family Feud Africa and its first week just wrapped up.

In short, Steve is a very busy man. But the Miss Universe event is in good hands. Mario cohosted the Miss Universe Coronation once before in 2007. Olivia was also a cohost back in 2019 after winning the competition in 2012.

We can’t wait to watch these two together on stage, and we’re sure Steve will also be rooting them on.
