Stephen And Ayesha Curry Are Helping Provide 1 Million Meals To Kids After Coronavirus Closes Schools
The NBA suspended play for the rest of the season amid the coronavirus outbreak, but star player Stephen Curry is proving that he's a champion even without a basketball court.
The Golden State Warriors guard and his wife Ayesha Curry made a contribution to the Alameda County Food Bank through their Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. that will help provide 1 million meals to school kids in Oakland, Calif. The generous effort will give students and their families one less thing to worry about after local schools closed because of the pandemic.
“We just found out that the Oakland Unified School District is closing their doors for the foreseeable future," Stephen Curry said in a video posted to his official Twitter account over the weekend. "So we want to intercede on behalf of the kids that rely on their daily services and try to help in any way that we can."

Public school closures have a disproportionate impact on underprivileged kids, who rely on school meals. The National School Lunch program serves 29.7 million kids free or low-cost meals each day, according to CNN.
“The statistics are really staggering," Ayesha Curry added. "Eighteen thousand rely on at least two meals a day from the school system, so we want to make sure that we rally around everyone and ensure that these kids are not wondering where their next meal is coming from."
