Step aside, Home Depot Skeleton — the internet now loves Target’s creepy jack-o’-lantern ghoul named Lewis

For the past few years, Home Depot’s giant 12-foot skeleton has become must-have yard decor for the Halloween-obsessed. It even became a meme last year when content creator Kiel James Patrick filmed a sketch about the oversized prop’s “misadventures.”

But the iconic skeleton seems to be getting a run for its money this year in the form of a pumpkin-faced Halloween ghoul from Target that’s almost just as tall.

Its official product name is the 8-foot Light and Sound Pumpkin Halloween Ghoul from Hyde & EEK! Boutique. However, most people refer to the $180 ghoul by its other name: Lewis-O’-Lantern.

According to Target.com, Lewis will add “haunted vibes” to any front yard with his orange jack-o’-lantern head, creepy orange hands and tattered hooded robe. The decor piece even lets out “spooky sounds” as the face lights up.

“I am not a jack-o’-lantern,” Lewis tells anyone approaching him. “My name is Lewis.”

Though designed for outdoor use, Lewis can also be brought inside to spook and delight guests throughout the month.

The only problem? He’s currently sold out online, making him this season’s official “it” item. In fact, Lewis is so popular lately that he’s spawned his very own hashtag, #MyNameIsLewis, with over 20 million views on TikTok.

“I dont know who voiced this halloween decoration at Target but i hope they got paid a lot of money to do it,” wrote a TikTok user named Shan (@imshannonduh), who filmed the giant prop in the store.

Other users are filming Lewis when they see him out in the wild, including a New Yorker named Noa (@weenreads), who spotted Lewis on a roof somewhere in the city.

There’s even been some pretty cool fan art swirling about the creepy ghoul, including this illustration by Basic Amoeba.

It turns out that Target is well aware of all the hype around Lewis — and not just because he quickly sold out.

“We’re thrilled to see excitement from our guests for our Hyde & EEK! Boutique Pumpkin Halloween Ghoul, better known as Lewis,” a representative from Target told In The Know by Yahoo. “Lewis is new this year, and — like all of our Hyde & EEK! Boutique items — was created by Target’s internal product design team.”

The insider also shared that while Lewis may be sold out online, customers can still find the Halloween ghoul in select Target stores if they look around.
