Stella Maxwell isn’t really into hyped-up shoe trends. There are no fogged-up PVC pumps on her feet, nary a luxe Louis Vuitton hotel slipper, and not even a chunky dad shoe. Instead, Maxwell is the kind of woman who opts to go barefoot on the street. We’re talking about naked phalanges touching the pavement! An unclothed digit on the concrete! The sans shoe moment happened today: Maxwell was seen boldly stepping out from a nail salon in Los Angeles with Kristen Stewart, without shoes and socks. Maxwell wore a classic model off-duty look that consisted of a light gray sweater; a pair of rolled-up, low-slung army print cargo pants; a black Balenciaga bag; and angled sunglasses. And while most people opt for the post-pedi thong sandal, Maxwell simply carried her three-stripe Adidas Samba sneakers and let her undressed foot pads glide down the street.

While many may cringe at the thought of going shoeless out in the open, Maxwell’s barefoot choice isn’t without precedent. In fact, it had a moment in fashion somewhat recently: For the Chanel Spring 2019 show, models walked barefoot down a sandy runway with their shoes hanging daintily in their hands. As for Maxwell’s choice? It takes quite a lot of confidence to pull off the unshod look—and hopefully, a short walk to the car.
