Starting a nonprofit and buying a Honda civic: 'Are You the One?' contestants dish on spending show's earnings

Walking away from MTV’s Are You the One with a $45,000 paycheck in your back pocket is not a bad way to exit a dating show. Former couple and show contestants Michael Dean and Audrey Diaz echoed these sentiments when they visited The Morning Breath on Thursday.

MTV divided $1 million into 22 paychecks for the show’s finalists, and TMB’s Claudia and Jackie Oshry couldn’t help but ask the two how they’re spending their reality show earnings. Please note that the $45,000 is taxed — not all of us can afford George Clooney-size gifts.

Diaz is buying herself a Honda Civic that she had already been saving up for while investing the rest in the market and her savings account. Responsible!

Dean, on the other hand, has started a nonprofit organization called Building for Better, and his first stop with the charity will be Thailand in May, where he’ll be working with Friends of Thai Daughters. Responsible and generous!

Dean shares, “Basically helping little girls of northern Thailand who are subject to sex trafficking — we go up there, help the villages. Because if the villages have education, money, and food, they’re not going to either sell their daughters or be subject to those criminals coming in.”

We’re embarrassed to admit that buying a sports car and a mansion are at the top of our list when we become rich, but thank you to Diaz and Dean for the philanthropic inspiration.
