Are you hoping to shake up your Netflix streaming queue with a new, binge-worthy series? Look no further than Start-Up, an international TV show that’s gaining popularity for the all the right reasons.

The ten-episode series combines entrepreneurship with a soap opera story line by introducing viewers to a Korean version of Silicon Valley. So, what is Start-Up about? And why all the hype? Keep reading for details.

1. What is Start-Up about?

The Netflix original series takes place in a fictional zone called Sandbox, which is the Korean equivalent to Silicon Valley. Similar to the U.S. hot spot, it’s where many promising entrepreneurs come in the hopes of launching a successful start-up company.

Start-Up follows Seo Dal Mi (Bae Suzy) as she chases her dream of becoming Korea’s very own Steve Jobs. Can she successfully pitch a business, all while navigating her confusing new love triangle?

Disclaimer: Start-Up isn’t dubbed in English, so you may need to “listen” via subtitles.

2. Is there a trailer?

Absolutely (see above). The series introduces viewers to the complex story line, which revolves around Seo Dal Mi’s goal of becoming a powerful CEO. It also offers a glimpse at the romantic plot, which makes it seem more like a soap opera than anything else (in the best way possible).

3. Who’s in it?

In addition to Suzy, Start-Up also stars Nam Joo Hyuk (Nam Do San), Kim Seon Ho (Han Ji Pyung), Kang Han Na (Won In Jae), Stephanie Lee (Jung Sa Ha), Kim Do Wan (Kim Yong San), Jasper Cho (Alex Kwon), Song Sun Mi (Cha Ah Hyun) and Yoo Su Bin (Lee Cheol San).

The series was directed by Oh Choong Hwan (Hotel Del Luna), while Park Hye Ryun (Dream High) wrote the screenplay.

4. What’s the hype about?

Start-Up offers a unique look at how Korean businesses operate on a day-to-day basis. Not only does it provide an interesting contrast to U.S. corporations, but it also highlights the dedication that start-ups require to thrive. Not to mention, we’re grateful to find a series that revolves around an ambitious female lead.
