The stars of the The Lion King looked like actual royalty at the film's world premiere
We could feel the fashion love last night. For months, we’ve been anxiously anticipating the premiere of Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Lion King, and the day is finally—almost—here. On July 9th, stars stepped out for the world premiere of the classic Disney movie remake starring Beyoncé and Donald Glover. The film doesn’t arrive in theaters until July 18th, but hakuna matata, we can feast our eyes on the incredible red carpet premiere looks while we wait.
The entire cast took to the red carpet last night with looks that deserve to be held atop of Pride Rock for all the world to see. Soak up our fave lion king and queen looks below.
Beyoncé—Nala
We all know Beyoncé is the queen of pop, but she officially rules the red carpet, too. Bey stunned in a bejeweled Alexander McQueen suit jacket gown, crystal chains, and intricate braids. Daughter Blue Ivy wowed in similar garb, adding blingy buns to the ensemble. We’re simply not worthy.
Donald Glover—Simba
Simba’s got style. Glover stepped out in a bold printed Gucci suit fit for a king.
Chiwetel Ejiofor—Scar
Taking on the role of the villain, Ejiofor opted for a sleek, smart look—a classic black suit.
Billy Eichner—Timon
Playing everyone’s favorite feisty meerkat, Eichner chose a similarly spunky look—a crimson suit, printed shirt, and pink tie.
Seth Rogen—Pumbaa
As if his bushy beard didn’t already make him look like a man of the wild, Rogen threw in a bold printed shirt to seal the deal.
Shahadi Wright Joseph—young Nala
Shahadi is radiating pure beauty and channeling her character, the sweet young Nala. Although Blue Ivy is the true mini-Queen Bey, we think Shahadi might be a rising queen in her own right.
JD McCrary—young Simba
McCrary has clearly mastered the spunk of young Simba, and he knows how to rock a bedazzled suit, too—which is exactly what we imagine human Simba would wear.
Alfre Woodard—Sarabi
Hello, golden goddess. Woodward looks warm and powerful in her red carpet gown, just as mama lion Sarabi should.
John Kani—Rafiki
Kani’s son Atandwa and wife Mandi accompanied him on the carpet, and they killed the family fashion game, looking like a true king and queen with their prince.
Florence Kasumba—Shenzi
Kasumba slays the red carpet game in her slinky sequin gown.
Eric Andre—Azizi
Fellow hyena Andre made a major splash in his hot pink and lime green suit. He’s rocking the clean-cut look, but we’ve gotta admit we miss his trademark hair.
Keegan-Michael Key—Kamari
No joking around here—Key looks seriously dapper in his classic black suit.
Michelle Williams
We’re totally transfixed by Williams’ human disco ball look. And those subtle orange and red accents? Obsessed.
Chloe and Halle Bailey
Talk about a dynamic duo. The Bailey sisters are glowing in their chic black outfits, and this appearance is making us even more excited (if that’s possible) to see Halle at her own Disney red carpet premiere for The Little Mermaid.
Normani
She always looks freaking fierce, but Normani has simply outdone herself this time. The power pony, the waist-high slit, the glitter—just yes.
Kelly Rowland
Rowland’s funky zebra ensemble and son Titan’s blue suit (plus the peace sign—c’mon) gave us the smile we needed today.
Yara Shahidi
Apparently suit dresses were the look of the night. We’re big Yara Shahidi fans, and this look alone proves why. Her sophisticated yet sexy suit dress is striking enough, but the pop of color with her pink heels? Killer.
Raven-Symoné
Oh snap! Symoné is taking a walk on the wild side with feather earrings and rainbow braids, and we’re here for it.
Don’t mind us, we’ll just be obsessing over these looks and singing “The Circle of Life” until The Lion King hits theaters on July 18th.
