We Tried The Starbucks Pistachio Latte—Here's Why It's Our New Go-To

Update, January 10, 2022: January is the perfect month to instill new routines, and finding a new coffee order is a great way to start. If you're feeling peppermint and pumpkin fatigue following the holiday season, Starbucks' returning Pistachio Latte is the option for you.

I gave the beverage—which is back again for its second year—a try and can say it's worth the hype. I'm not even much of a coffee drinker (I typically go for an iced matcha or hot tea at Starbucks) but can see myself ordering this latte in the future when I want something that tastes good and will keep me caffeinated.

The latte is made with pistachio flavors, Starbucks espresso, steamed milk, and a salted brown butter topping. I ordered mine with Almondmilk, but keep in mind that the pistachio flavors are made with dairy products if you have any dietary restrictions. The brown butter topping added a slightly salty finish to the drink which cut the sweetness and complemented the pistachio.

There was no overpowering coffee flavor despite the inclusion of the espresso and the drink was totally balanced, which I appreciate as someone who isn't the biggest fan of overwhelming coffee flavors. Overall, I can see this becoming a go-to for me on my typical Starbucks run and it's worth a try if you're looking for something new.

Original Post, January 4, 2022: With the holiday season behind us, you might be looking for a new coffee beverage to replace your morning Peppermint Mocha or midday Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte. Luckily, Starbucks has some new drinks for the winter season that offer caffeinated comfort without overplaying the seasonal flavors you love during the holidays.

The Pistachio Latte is returning for its second year and will be available throughout the winter while supplies last. You can choose to enjoy it hot or iced, and each latte is made with flavors of pistachio combined with Starbucks signature espresso, steamed milk, and a salted brown butter topping. This drink was inspired by the Pistachio Latte that was exclusive to the Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in 2019 but is now available at locations everywhere.

Customizations are always welcome when it comes to Starbucks' menu, so you can choose your milk or try other add-ons for your own take on the Pistachio Latte. You can even add the pistachio sauce to other menu favorites for additional flavor. If you happen to be dairy-free, keep in mind that the pistachio sauce contains dairy.

Additionally, Starbucks has two permanent offerings on menu to please those individuals who love drinking iced coffees all year long—even during the coldest months of the year. An Iced Chocolate Almondmilk Shaken Espresso and Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso are part of the Starbucks menu for good since their release last spring.

To celebrate the new year, Starbucks is also bringing back Meatless Mondays in January. Every Monday this month you can get $2 off the Impossible breakfast sandwich, a deal that's available on the Starbucks app or in stores. With any of the new and returning drinks to pair with it, looks like you have yourself a no-brainer breakfast.
