Starbucks Adds Two New Non-Dairy Drinks to the Menu

In 2019, Starbucks added several new drinks to its menu, including Cloud Macchiattos in March, a traditional Italian drink—the Bicerin—at select Reserve locations the same month, and most recently, an Irish Cream Cold Brew for the holiday season. Now, the chain is starting off 2020 with two more additions—an Almondmilk Honey Flat White and Coconutmilk Latte. The new non-dairy drinks officially joined the permanent menu on January 7 and will be available nationwide at participating stores—we had the chance to try them as soon as they launched.

First up was the Almondmilk Honey Flat White, made with ristretto shots of Starbucks Blonde Espresso, steamed almond milk, and honey, which cuts through the bitterness of the espresso beautifully. We found it to be nice and rich with just the right amount of sweetness—it even won over a non-coffee drinker. The Coconutmilk Latte, on the other hand, was less creamy but still smooth, combining Starbucks Blonde Espresso, steamed coconut milk, and a cascara sugar topping. It has a similar texture to the oat milk lattes Starbucks launched at select Reserve locations last year, and unless you’re a purist, you won’t miss the dairy milk at all.

Speaking of oat milk, Starbucks fans in the Midwest will also be treated to the new Oatmilk Honey Latte, which is being tested in roughly 1,300 stores across Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. The latte is prepared with shots of Starbucks Blonde Espresso, “a hint of honey,” steamed oat milk, and a toasted honey topping. According to CNBC, the oat milk will be supplied by Oatly, the Swedish oat milk company that’s been taking the U.S. by storm.

Starbucks also made headlines recently for opening its largest store ever (again) in Chicago this past November—a whopping 35,000 square feet Reserve Roastery in the city’s Magnificent Mile neighborhood. The five-story space includes three main coffee bars, a cocktail bar that features drinks prepared with coffee and tea, and an outpost of Princi, the brand’s bakery partner.
