The script for the latest "Star Wars" film at one time was available on eBay, thanks to the work of a Sith Lord-like thief.
J.J. Abrams, who directed the upcoming movie, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," made the shocking revelation during an interview with "Good Morning America" on Monday. According to Abrams, the highly anticipated conclusion of the latest "Star Wars" trilogy could've been spoiled.
"One of our actors, I won't say which one — I want to, but I won't — left [the script] under their bed, and it was found by someone who was cleaning their place," Abrams said. "It was given to someone else, who then went to sell it on eBay."
Thankfully, Abrams said someone at Disney — which owns "Star Wars" developer Lucasfilm — managed to find out about the script and remove it before it could be sold, according to CNBC.
"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" opens in theaters on Dec. 20, bringing a conclusion to the trilogy started by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" — which Abrams also directed.
Considering that "The Force Awakens," released in 2015, is the highest-grossing domestic film of all time, it'll likely be a huge release. "The Rise of Skywalker" broke all sorts of records for advance ticket sales, and, according to IGN, the movie is set to earn anywhere between $550 and $750 million in total.
That makes it all the more important that the script — with supposed reveals about the parentage of its protagonist, Rey, as well as the supposed return of an iconic villain — wasn't sold on eBay. Still, if that person had managed to follow through on the heist, they would've been, as Obi-Wan Kenobi once said, "more powerful than you can possibly imagine."
