A Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actor has disputed claims that a 'JJ Abrams cut' of the film exists.

Greg Grunberg, who is friends with Abrams and has collaborated with him on several projects, played Snap Wexley in The Rise of Skywalker.

And, speaking recently, Greg appeared to debunk rumors that a The Rise of Skywalker director's cut is floating in the ether.

After an interview in which Dominic Monaghan, who played Beaumont Kin, said that "so much stuff" didn't make the theatrical cut of the movie, talk of a director's cut started on Reddit–and a #ReleaseTheJJCut hashtag has been circulating online.

However, Greg said "would be surprised" if it were true.

"I talked to J.J. as friends throughout the entire process," Greg told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Every night, I'd be like, 'How's it going?' Every time, he was so positive. I'm being completely honest here, but not once did he ever tell me that there was any pressure on him to cut things out."

He added: "Personally, I don't think there's any truth to that, and I would be surprised if there's a 'J.J. cut'."

"Every movie goes through a series of cuts; it's just the nature of it. You see what works, what you need more of and where you need clarity.

"So, I think that's all a part of the creative process. I don't buy into it at all."

Greg's comments follow Star Wars finally explaining how Leia died in the Rise of Skywalker companion novel by Rae Carson, which expands on many key plot threads in the movie.

They also follow a The Rise of Skywalker FX artist revealing that a Labyrinth tribute was cut from the film.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is available to pre-order on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now.
