Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Finally Has Opening Dates at Disney World and Disneyland

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the banner attraction within Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park land, has finally announced its opening date.

The newest Star Wars ride, touted as being the most progressive Disney attraction of all time, will debut its much-anticipated cinematic storyline at Walt Disney World on Dec. 5th and Disneyland Resort on Jan. 17th, 2020. That’s right — fans are less than five months away from knowing what being captured by Kylo Ren really feels like.

Guests can battle Darth Vader and jump into hyperspace on Star Tours and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, Disney’s other Star Wars attractions, but neither should come close to Rise of the Resistance’s realism. That’s because it’s not just a ride — it’s multiple rides in one. Guests will be recruited by Rey and BB-8 for a daring mission and board a Resistance ship that ultimately gets sucked into a Star Destroyer. Those Death Star-fueled nightmares from childhood will soon become reality as you encounter an army of Stormtroopers, break out of space jail and pass underneath the legs of AT-ATs as you plot your escape.

It was previously announced that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge would be opening without its star attraction, but guests were unaware when they’d actually be able to meet Kylo Ren face-to-face until today. The 14-acre Star Wars-themed land already opened at California’s Disneyland Resort, and will debut at Walt Disney World in Florida on Aug. 29th. Inside, gusts can buy collectibles straight from the silver screen, make their own customized lightsabers, and even drink Star Wars-inspired cocktails at an otherworldly cantina.

It’s the largest-ever land expansion at Disneyland and a major move for the Disney theme parks, who have even more film attractions opening in the future. A Marvel-themed land will debut at Disney California Adventure next year, while a Tron coaster and Guardians of the Galaxy coaster are currently being constructed at Walt Disney World.
