Star Wars Finally Resolved a Major Yoda Plot Hole from 'The Empire Strikes Back'
A major Star Wars plot hole involving Yoda and R2-D2 has finally been squashed.
Inside the recently-released book From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back (co-authored by Seth Dickinson, Hank Green, R. F. Kuang, Martha Wells and Kiersten White), the two characters' apparent ignorance of each other on Degobah is explained.
The going argument is that during the prequel trilogy, it becomes clear that Yoda and the droid had known one another long before the events of The Empire Strikes Back, so their non-relationship in the 1980 movie makes no sense.
Detailed in a chapter titled 'The First Lesson', it's revealed that the green Jedi master did recognize R2, but just didn't say anything out loud.
"Carefully moving through the swamp while staying beneath the fog, Yoda soon spotted the boy and his droid unpacking their supplies," a passage reads (as reported by ComicBook).
"Even though the droid was caked with algae, dirt, and stomach fluid, its appearance and familiar blips were still quite recognizable.
"Of course the boy had Anakin's old droid with him. Such cycles of fate no longer surprised the nine-hundred-year-old Jedi."
