Star College Athlete Loses Championship Rings in Dallas Tornado

Two weeks ago, Chelsea Raymond was home watching Netflix when she got a text from a family member asking if she was okay.

Raymond was unaware that the Dallas area was being pummeled by an outbreak of monster tornadoes. Thinking quickly, the 27-year-old grabbed her dog and a mattress and ran to her bathroom just minutes before an EF2 tornado tore apart her neighborhood in Garland.

"It was just really loud wind," she recalled to KXAS-TV. "Then you heard everything breaking.”

Though Raymond and her dog were unharmed, her house sustained significant damage. Parts of her house were missing, and so were four very important pieces college memorabilia.

"They were on a shelf right here in the corner," she told the local news station, pointing to the spot where she kept them.

Raymond, a former Stephen F. Austin State University soccer star who became the school’s all-time points leader in 2014, lost her four conference championship rings in the storm.

"It was a really big deal to go to SFA. It was kind of the prime time for SFA to really build a foundation there,” she told KXAS-TV. "That was four straight years. We only lost one conference game, only tied one conference game. So, it's a big deal to realize those important things are gone.”

Since the storm, Raymond has had one of her rings returned to her, but she’s still looking for the other three, which, presumably, are still in their black boxes. Each silver ring is engraved with her name.

But through the search, she said she’s keeping it all in perspective.

"Even the rings we can find those, but I can't be [replaced]. My dog can't be," she said. "Just finding the positives as much as possible.
