Stapleton Market aims to bring community together through summer

STAPLETON, Ala. (WKRG) — A new weekly community market just started this weekend in the hopes of growing a small part of Baldwin County.

A cluster of tents fills a small field in Stapleton as people prepare to sell their sauces and other treats. The new Stapleton market just started Saturday.

It was founded by Jillian Stage and Valentino Torre. The two just moved to the area and wanted a community event closer than Foley or Fairhope.

“Stapleton is kind of the middle ground. So we thought we’d start here close to home,” said Market Manager Jillian Stage.

“Something to get the community together and have something to do because there’s nothing that really goes on in Stapleton,” said Valentino Torre, who grew up in Steelwood.

“And we just wanted to build a community since we plan on living here for the rest of our lives.”

The market will continue every Saturday through the end of the summer. And organizers say they hope it continues to build on a spirit of community in this small area.

“Everybody gets together,” said George Mosley, sitting at his vendor tent. “I’ve seen people this morning that I haven’t saw in 25 years; you know, that I was raised up with, and it’s nothing else If you don’t buy anything, you get to meet one another.”
