Stanley Tucci’s love for cooking and dedication to authenticity has been prevalent in his work for years. The Inside Man star recently began giving fans a peek into his fascination with food by way of his short-lived CNN series, Searching for Italy, and despite the series getting the axe after only two seasons, Tucci’s adoration for all things food and beverage has thankfully lived on through his Instagram account. Even more exciting than the constant wave of fantastic Tucci content online, the actor now has dreams of opening a restaurant of his own.

In an interview with Lilia and Misi’s owner Missy Robbins on Radio Cherry Bomb, the Top Chef Masters contestant asked Tucci about his desire to open a restaurant, citing how currently intertwined he is in the food world. “Would I like to do it? Yes,” Tucci admitted, before recalling an opportunity he had recently to open a restaurant in a hotel which turned out to be “too big.”

The Lovely Bones star went on to describe how he would love to do something “incredibly small,” adding that his dream restaurant would feature daily menu changes and staple dishes with very few wines. Tucci recountws his restaurant dreams as an “osteria,” citing his yearning for something “small and intimate,” plus his fascination with food and “why the world eats what it eats.”

Tucci does clarify, however, that he would not be the chef in this dream restaurant, nor would his chef son, Nicolo. “That would completely destroy the relationship,” Tucci joked of the idea of his oldest son and him working together in the kitchen. Nicolo graduated from Leiths School of Food and Wine in London and currently works at St. John Restaurant.

Fresh off of his collaboration with Williams Sonoma, Tucci’s new cookware line — TUCCI by GreenPan — is just another example of how he honors his relationship with food. “I’m fascinated by food and why the world eats what it eats,” Tucci explains. “Growing up, eating was everything…it becomes a focal point, it becomes the punctuation at the end of the day. Everything that was wonderful and everything that was repressed would show itself at the table.”

It's hard to argue with Tucci’s passion for food — not that anyone would dare dream of it. And while his restaurant dreams have yet to come to fruition, it’s not hard to imagine that he is well on his way to making his dreams a reality. In the meantime though, we can still collectively enjoy his videos on Instagram, as they represent the proverbial appetizer to the main course that is his own restaurant.
