Actor Stanley Tucci will once again travel around Italy in search of its most meaningful cuisines.

Following the major success and then cancellation of his CNN docuseries Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, the show will be returning in a new iteration on National Geographic, the network recently announced.

“National Geographic is all about adventure and exploration, and I am honored to take viewers once again to explore Italy through the lens of food,” Tucci said in a statement shared with Travel + Leisure. “In Italy’s many distinct regions there is always something new to discover and I’m more than excited to begin the process."

Tentatively titled Tucci — The Heart of Italy, the docuseries will start production in January and will focus on the actor as he “unlocks the distinct flavors that define each region and discovers the rich versatility of Italy through those he meets along the journey,” the announcement detailed.

Each of the 10 episodes will feature a different region. On his Italy itinerary: Sicily, Lazio, Marche, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige.

In a similar mentality as the original series, the 63-year-old upstate New York-born American — whose parents are both of Italian descent — will explore the stories behind each region’s trademark dishes through chefs, farmers, fishermen, winemakers, brewers, and more.

Additional insight will also come from the country’s “unique geology and changing climate to its history, politics, and modern multiculturalism,” as he “not only gathers inspiration, but also learns about Italy on multiple levels,” National Geographic said.

The goal is to show viewers a deeper context of Italian cuisine, away from the most popular tourist routes and in the off season, in order to go “behind closed doors with stunning visuals to reveal Italy and its culinary secrets like we’ve never seen them before,” the announcement also detailed.

The show is in partnership with BBC Studios’ Specialist Factual Productions, and it will be the first project for Tucci’s own Salt Productions,
