Stanford’s Oscar da Silva suffered scary, emotional head injury in loss to Colorado
Stanford star Oscar da Silva suffered a scary head injury early in the second half of their 81-74 loss to Colorado in Boulder on Saturday afternoon.
Da Silva, just minutes into the second half, attempted to cut off Colorado’s Evan Battey on a fast break to stop a layup, however the two collided and were sent tumbling to the ground under the hoop.
As they went down, da Silva slammed the left side of his head onto the court and remained motionless on the floor.
Medical professionals quickly rushed to him and rolled him over to find that blood was coming from his head.
A stretcher was brought out to the floor to take him off, however da Silva opted to walk off with help instead. He did not return.
The injury was an emotional one for everyone involved in the contest, and players from both teams gathered in the middle of the floor together in a huddle.
"Our hearts go out to Oscar."

Colorado coach Tad Boyle said he’s never seen a moment where both teams come together like they did after the injury, either.
“It was emotional,” Boyle said. “I think the way their coaches and their players responded, and how our players responded was really special.”
Battey was very emotional, too, crying off to the side before leaving to the locker room to collect himself. He finished the night with 13 points, and was still in tears after the game.

Play eventually resumed, and the Buffaloes rallied back from an 11-point hole to grab the seven-point win.
Stanford later announced that da Silva suffered a head laceration and will need stitches.
“He’s going to be OK,” a Stanford spokesman said, via ESPN. “He’ll go through the concussion tests as well.”
Da Silva finished the night with five points, two rebounds and two assists in 13 minutes. He’s averaged 16.4 points and 6.5 rebounds so far this season, his third with the Cardinal. The loss marked Stanford’s fifth in its last six games, too.
