Standup Paddleboarder Gets Absolutely Wrecked by Flying Dolphin (Clip)

Surfers and standup paddleboarders have a bit of a beef.

There’s a couple reasons why. First, a SUP surfer typically sits (or stands) outside the lineup. And because of that, when a set comes, they are the first to paddle for it, often catching the wave before surfers have a chance; and sometimes, they take more than their fair share. Secondly, a lot of SUP surfers are in the beginning phases of the wave-riding careers, and therefore, can cause issues in the lineup.

As for the dolphins in the lineup, it looks like they've sided with the surfers in this ongoing feud; check out the clip below for proof.

The video shows a standup paddleboarder cruising out to the lineup, making his way over a few cresting waves. However, in one of those waves, there’s a pod of dolphins riding along, essentially playing a game of aquatic chicken with the man on the SUP. And once they get close, one dolphin breaches from the wave and absolutely bodies the SUPer.

Like, absolutely wrecked.

A common bottlenose dolphin – which this one appears to be – can weigh anywhere from 300 to 1,400 pounds. With a weight like that, and the speed it was traveling at, that’s gotta hurt.

No word on who the standup paddleboarder was, or any damage he sustained, or where this happened, but you gotta hand it to the guy for getting right back on his board and continuing to paddle away. You gotta imagine there was some aches and bruises from the incident...at the very least.

And even though it was almost certainly an accident, the collision almost looked premeditated. People in the comments section agreed:

“Must have done it on porpoise.”

“That was personal.”

“You know that dolphin told his homies “watch this, imma get him”

“Dolphins are highly intelligent and I'm certain this was done with intent.”

“Didn’t lead with the crown of his helmet, clean shoulder hit below the neck… no penalty. Turnover on downs. Miami Dolphins’ ball.”

Looks like the SUPer is just gonna have to walk – err…paddle – this one off.
