Ask a lady what her favorite lipstick is, and she may pull out a variety of brands and shades from her purse. But when it’s time to talk mascara you’ll find serious monogamy. If she’s found the wand that delivers perfect, flirty, long, voluminous lashes every day, she’s not letting go. If you’re on the hunt for a new partner in crime, you may want to try these editor-approved overachievers.

Lancome Definicils ($28)

This was my mom’s mascara that I fell in love with growing up. I’ve tried a million other brands since then, but I always go back for perfectly plumped-up ultra-long lashes. —Sara Bliss

CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume ($6)

Whenever friends ask for a drugstore mascara suggestion, this is my recommendation. It adds volume, doesn’t flake, doesn’t smudge, comes off easily—and it’s affordable, too. I mean, really, what else could you want out of a mascara? —Annie Tomlin

Kevyn Aucoin The Volume ($28)

Every single time I wear this mascara, someone says, “But those aren’t your real lashes…right?” It’s a miracle in a tube. Also, it doesn’t flake or run and it comes off in what looks like little pieces of black plastic, so there’s no need for eye makeup remover and no chance of waking up with anything underneath your eyes in the morning. – Britt Aboutaleb

Kjaer Weis Mascara ($38)

It never clumps, never flakes, and the brush is small enough to easily coat your bottom lashes too. If that wasn’t enough, the fancy silver tube is also refillable. —Alexandra Perron

Each of Dolce & Gabbana’s mascaras is worth trying (really, there’s not one dud), but this curved, flexible, plastic wand is my favorite. It curls and lengthens each individual lash for a really full-but-natural-looking set. And thanks to its ultra-lightweight formula, you can build volume with an extra coat and won’t see any clumps. It easily washes off with cleanser, and I’ve never experienced a single flake or smudge. —Joanna Douglas

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara ($28)

The thick bristles on this wand allow me to load up the product on my lashes for max volume. The smokey eye effect lasts all day. All I need is a swipe on my lashes and add a pop of blush on my cheek and I’m ready for work.  —Tara Tersigni
