The ’Stache Lives On: ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ Sequel ‘Death on the Nile’ Is Happening

Just 11 days after the most recent film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel Murder on the Orient Express hit theaters, 20th Century Fox is ready to take on another Hercule Poirot detective mystery, mustachios and all.

The film company is currently developing a follow-up movie based on Christie’s classic 1937 novel, Death on the Nile. Michael Green (Orient Express) is set to pen the script, and Kenneth Branagh (Cinderella) is in talks to return as director and reprise his role as Poirot.

Death on the Nile follows the story of Poirot, a fictional Belgian detective who appears in several of Christie’s works, including Murder on the Orient Express. But this time, Poirot embarks on an Egyptian riverboat cruise and finds himself in the middle of a love triangle gone wrong.

No further details have been released. However, given the star-studded cast for Orient Express—Penélope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Olivia Colman and Daisy Ridley—Death on the Nile’s cast is likely to be just as stellar. Although the original 1978 film adaptation starring Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, David Niven, Angela Lansbury and Maggie Smith wasn’t too shabby, either.

Let the games begin.
