With summer weather on its way, a new ice cream and coffee shop in St. Clair will be open just in time to beat the heat.

The owners of Fowlers Creamery and Coffee are aiming to open in the beginning of May. Co-owner Rob Fowler said the Fowler family has been to many ice cream shops because of their love for the treat, and they wanted to create a unique experience for customers once theirs was opened.

"We're bringing a unique flavor with having an ice cream shop with a coffee shop," he said. "We're joining the two worlds."

Fowlers Creamery and Coffee is located inside the Riverview Plaza at 201 Riverview Ave in St. Clair. Details regarding its grand opening have not been announced.

There will be around 36 flavors of ice cream available for customers to choose from. The Fowlers said they want to have at least 24 staple flavors and the rest will be rotated out with the help of community input. Additionally, around three to four flavors can be expected to be vegan, dairy-free or sugar-free.

Also, Fowlers Creamery and Coffee will be serving Exquisite Corpse coffee, a Port Huron-based coffee shop.

Once the interior of the ice cream and coffee shop is completed, it will have a bar seating area, booths, a selfie wall for customers and outdoor seating. Rob Fowler said the shop will have two menus and registers to accommodate the two aspects of the business.

Co-owner Nichole Fowler said she and Rob Fowler wanted to keep the shop's set up simple so customers would not be overwhelmed.

Nicole Fowler said she had been a hairstylist for 22 years and loved visiting places life cafes and bakeries. She said she never thought she could own a joint ice cream and coffee shop, and she is excited to see it come to fruition.

"I always thought it would be awesome to own one," she said. "It looked like there was a need for one in the area."

Rob and Nicole Fowler said the ice cream and coffee shop will be a true family ordeal. Their children, Harper, 11, and Nash, 7, will be helping out when they can. Harper Fowler said she is helping with the design elements of the space and menu creation.

"Whenever I come in here, I see a different change every time," she said. "I'm really excited."

Nash said he is the designated taste tester.

The Fowlers said the community has been very supportive of their business since they announced it. Rob Fowler said a lot of local high school students have reached out to apply for a job. He said there has been a huge buzz around Fowlers Creamery and Coffee and that the whole family is excited for opening day.
