Five Stunning Before & After Kitchen Renovations

“There was really nothing right about the original kitchen—with its dated cabinets, vinyl floor and mylar wallpaper,” remembers Chicago-based designer Tom Stringer of this project for empty nesters in Chicago. “There was also a huge silver vault built into one of the main walls in the room which was a real challenge to remove. Since this was a landmarked co-op building, no major walls or windows could be moved, not even the locations of the plumbing risers.” Apart from the shell of the space, everything else—cabinets, flooring, lighting, appliances, finishes—was replaced.
