When Will Squid Game Season 2 Be Released on Netflix?

Squid Game was Netflix’s most-watched series when it aired in 2021, going on to sweep numerous awards and making a lasting impression on viewers. So when is the next installment of the deadly Korean drama?

We already know Squid Game season 2 has locked in its cast. It's currently filming, and has been since July 2023. That would put its release date at late 2024. It sounds like a long wait, but it’s not much at all when compared to how long it took the first season to come to fruition.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year,” wrote director and writer Hwang Dong-Hyuk in June 2022. “But it took just 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Nextflix series ever.”

In the post, tweeted on Netflix’s official account, Dong-Hyuk confirms that Gi-hun will return, alongside the Front Man, “the man in the suit with ddakji might be back,” and “you’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend Cheol-su.”

As well as Squid Game’s follow-up, Dong-Hyuk also confirmed the existence of Squid Game season 3, telling Korea Times in 2021, “I’m in talks with Netflix over Season 2 as well as Season 3. We will come to a conclusion any time soon."

As teased at the end of the final episode, Squid Game season 2 looks to center on Seong Gi-Hun and his mission of vengeance against the game’s shady orchestrators.
