Sprinkled with Sweetness is an adventure in flavor

Apr. 18—Carolann Morales starts most days like the rest of us. Get out of bed, get one kid ready for school, another to head to the sitter and then it is off to work.

That is where she begins to diverge from the normal. As the owner and chief baker at Sprinkled with Sweetness, the day marks an adventure in flavors.

"I always have a plan. I always post my menu on social media the day before," said Morales. "I try to do crazy flavors that you cannot find in any other shop or store. Like the other day I did a caramel popcorn cupcake, cheesecake in a nacho form, orange dreamsicle cheese cake, banana cheese cake, blue raspberry, mountain dew and root beer cupcakes. We are out to try and build our own unique market for the unusual flavors."

Sprinkled with Sweetness may be only a few months old, but the business is based on Morales' long-time love of working around the oven.

"I have been a home baker, just for fun, for about 10 years, and I've had my store now for three months," she said. "The response has been phenomenal. The current location, without a store front, has hurt a little. I had a pretty good sized customer base before I opened because as a home baker I did cakes and stuff for friends and family."

Morales does not refer to her business as a bakery. She likes dessert shop instead.

"It is a dessert shop, because we do all kinds of different deserts," she said. "We do cupcakes, cookies and brownies every day. Then we rotate out bonus treats like pies, cheesecakes, muffins and pretzels. Just any kind of dessert."

Just like Morales always has a plan for here menu for a day, she also has a plan to increase the visibility of Sprinkled with Sweetness. Currently, the shop is located in the old J.C. Penney building at the corner of Main and Third streets, but the plan is to move soon.

"We are moving mid-June across Main Street, next door to Rock Star Tattoo," said Morales. "We think that the move will help us. We have had people tell us they have not bought anything because they have trouble finding us. A storefront on Main Street should cure that."

In the meantime, Sprinkled with Sweetness is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"It is always the dream to have your own brand and to expand from just the people you know to those around town and even those out of town to want your product," said Morales. "Come try us out."
