Springfield PrideFest returning later this month

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The 14th annual Springfield PrideFest is occurring later this month.

The day-long event to celebrate diversity and the Central Illinois LGBTQ community is scheduled this year for Saturday, May 18.

The day kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with the parade on Fifth Street from Allen St. to American Legion Drive. The ribbon-cutting for the festival will take place at noon along with a performance by the Springfield Municipal Band.

Pride Fest will end with a drag show featuring performances from Deana Knight, Gardenia, Anja Mann, Chad W. Knight, J. Estellado Knight and Liquor Mini at 7:30 p.m.

Registration opens for APL’s Donuts & Dogs 5K Fun Run

Organizers estimate almost 30,000 attendees participate in the event each year.

“PrideFest is an important day in Springfield,” said Executive Director of Phoenix Center Jonna Cooley. “The energy is so amazing with people coming to see friends and support our LGBTQ community.”

More than 100 vendors are scheduled to appear, including local favorites such as Vose’s Korndogs, Culler’s Fries and Bells’ Finest BBQ. Music on the Clique Main Stage includes Rock ‘n Roll Sisters and the Brat Pack.

A family area, offering face painting, art projects, vendors, and a teen drag show, will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
